Sandwich Harbour Tours

Experience the raw, untamed beauty of Sandwich Harbour, a protected lagoon nestled on the Atlantic coast within the Namib-Naukluft National Park.
Once a site of small-scale fishing and whaling, this area has since been reclaimed by nature. Today, it is a sanctuary for life - most notably for the 250,000 birds that call this unique wetland home. Despite its name, Sandwich Harbour was never a functioning commercial port; it is, and has always been, a shallow, pristine lagoon lying roughly 80km south of Walvis Bay.

Your Adventure

Your journey begins with a stop at the Walvis Bay Lagoon to witness the spectacular sight of thousands of flamingos. From there, we venture into the Kuiseb River Delta, a sprawling, dry riverbed where you may catch a glimpse of desert - adapted springbok.
As we reach the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon - one of Southern Africa’s most unique wetlands - you will see how the freshwater seeping from underground aquifers creates a vibrant oasis at the base of the towering Namib Dunes.

The Experience

• Access & Exploration: If tides allow, we will drive along the beach to the water’s edge. If the tide is high, we will take you to several breathtaking lookout points, allowing you to walk, explore, and soak in the views from above.
• Photography: We prioritize time for photography, ensuring you capture the dramatic contrast of the sand meeting the ocean.
• Dining in the Dunes: We pause for a light lunch and a selection of savory and sweet snacks. Whether we set up on top of a soaring dune with panoramic views of the Atlantic or right on the beach, it is an unforgettable dining experience, toasted with sparkling wine.

Logistics
• Check-in Time: 30 minutes prior to departure.
• Departure Point: 81 Union Street, Walvis Bay (unless an alternative pickup point has been arranged).
• Boarding: Please present your booking voucher/payment to receive your official boarding pass.

• Common Sightings: Springbok, Black-backed Jackals, Oryx, Ostrich, Fog-basking beetle, Dancing spider ("White Lady of the Namib"), Golden mole, Shovel-snouted lizard, and Palmato gecko.
• Birdlife: Greater and Lesser Flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, White Chinned Petrel, Wilson’s Storm Petrel, Cape Gannet, Black Oystercatcher, and Turnstones.
